I am an artist at heart and find a great deal of pleasure visiting galleries and looking at paintings. To me the most appealing painting will invoke your imagination and make you consider feelings deeper then what we see on the surface.
A year or so ago I wandered into one gallery I visit often and was pleasantly surprised to see a fantastic artist painting a very large canvas. I had admired the work of Lani Imre who shows at Ayden Gallery in Vancouver many times and was spell bound to watch her work.
Lani focuses on the female identity and has a style that is truly mesmerizing. Each portrait makes you think about how women are viewed in the world and hopefully how they view themselves.
Lani’s write up says it best:
“The girls are an assertion of independence as well as a proclamation to an undeniable vulnerability. In this way, Lani hopes to make subtle critique on the ways in which women are influenced by, and view themselves in relation to the world.”
