Erika Sivertson
Founder & Principal
Erika Sivertson is the founder & principal designer at Erka Interior Design. She has grown up looking through the eyes of a designer. Her parents, an architect and an interior designer, involved her with their businesses from a very young age. Being an avid artist, Erika first studied Fine Arts at the esteemed program of Capilano University. After graduating, she completed the Interior Design program of British Columbia Institute of Technology with honours in 2001 and has been a professional designer in Vancouver ever since.
Having worked at three of her favourite Vancouver firms over the years Erika has developed her skills and knowledge in the design industry. Her specialty has been in Hospitality Design including hotels, restaurants, retail spaces, public areas, deli's, lounges and spas.
She feels lucky to have worked on many high end residential spaces throughout her career as well. "I enjoy aspects of both Hospitality and Residential Design, I feel balanced when I can work on both types of design. It is a skill I have developed to know what materials are appropriate for what applications and to use them in ways not always seen. I feel the best jobs are the ones where I connect with my client. Something I feel I have done on almost every job I have worked on. It has happened a few times where my client has teared up when walking through the door for the final walk-through. This feeling of joy the client has shown is the best feeling I have experienced professionally."
Where does the name Erka come from?
At a young age Erika came up with the nickname with a friend also named Erika. They liked the simplified 'uncluttered' version of their name. Erika's parents originally spelled her name with a k as an homage to her Swedish ancestry; a culture that is synonymous with clean, simplified design. Erika's definition of Erka is sophisticated, clean and uncluttered design with a Swedish and modern influence.
